BlogHer: I’ll Be The One Walking Around in Circles

// 7.22.09 // 10 Comments » // Food & Fitness, Link Love, Tech & Blogging, Thriving

OmronGoSmartBecause, really, $5,000 to the charity of my choice will keep me on the move.

Omron Healthcare is graciously sponsoring trips to BlogHer for six bloggers, myself included, and pitting us against one another in the Omron Overstep Your Bounds Challenge. We’ll each be wearing the Omron GOsmart Dual-Axis Pocket Pedometer HJ-720ITC to track our steps during the two-day challenge (7/24 – 7/25) and the woman with the most steps after two days will have $5,000 go to the charity of my her choice!

I’ll be competing against these lovely bloggers:

Y’all are going down. Between the 5K Fun Run and the sessions and the parties and – hey – bowling should score pretty well on a pedometer, huh? I’m so winning this thing.

Be sure to say hi when you see me at BlogHer. But don’t be offended if I make you walk around the hotel with me.

Homeschool Blogs, Links & Giveaways

// 7.1.09 // 8 Comments » // Food & Fitness, Homeschooling

Time for some homeschool links! I have a guest post up at blogs.com listing the Top 10 Homeschooling Blogs. I listed some of my favorites, but I’d love to hear about yours. Leave me a comment with the URL of your favorite homeschool blogs.

Now, let’s talk giveaways.

61yegndnr1l_sl160_ And I’ve got some excellent workbooks to give away. Summer Bridge workbooks consist of daily activities in reading, writing, mathematics, and language arts with bonus activities in science and geography for grades Pre-K through 8th. The books include flash cards, incentive contract calendars to keep kids motivated, and a certificate of completion. My daughter begs me to do this workbook every morning. I think we might be through the “summer activities” in two weeks!

I’ve got three to give away. (Winners will let me know their child’s grade level and the appropriate book will be sent to them.) Here’s how to enter:

  • Leave a comment with a link to your favorite homeschool blog or online education resource — need not be specific to homeschooling! (one entry)
  • Twitter this page as follows: @phatmommy is giving away three Summer Bridge Activities Workbooks that will keep your kids sharp over the summer. http://bit.ly/6YaqO
  • (one entry)

Giveaway will close on July 5th at midnight ET.

LBHP Day 1

// 6.17.09 // 1 Comment » // Food & Fitness, Link Love, Parenting, Tech & Blogging, Thriving

LBHP: That’s the Life/Blog Happiness Project.

Today, I was a Rockstar.

Health: Walked/ran 1.5 miles, per Couch-to-5K program. Did Jillian Michaels’ 30-Day Shred. Drank only water and coffee and stayed well within my calorie limit.

Happiness: Smiled more – even when my kids were fighting. That really throws them.

Blogging:

  • Started commenting on the SITS community web sites. Just takes a minute to spread some comment love and discover new bloggers.
  • Per ProBlogger’s 31DBBB, I wrote an elevator pitch for my blog. Here goes:

PHAT Mommy brings parenting, homeschooling, and technology together. I share resources for homeschooling parents and discuss how blogging and the internet can help them find community, support and information.

At least that is what I’d like my blog to be. Having that elevator pitch will help me to define and develop my blog with a clear goal.

I also had to buy myself a bathing suit today. That was the only part of my day that sucked ass.
