Our Kids Are So Seriously Clones Of Us

I had a parent-teacher conference today at the girl’s preschool. Summary: She’s doing great socially, needs a little work on fine motor skills. Also had Parent Observation Day at gymnastics, with essentially the same report. It was funny to watch her talk, talk, talk to the instructor while on the balance beam and the bar, yet she’s not so strong physically compared to girls her age. Her vocabulary is amazing. She likes to take her time and do things her own way. She doesn’t care what others think of her. In other words, she’s my husband.
But my son is not so social. He loves computers and video games and could sit at the computer all day and be perfectly happy about it. He’d rather not leave the house most of the time unless it’s to ski, play baseball, go running or swimming, play football or just play tag. He’s pretty strong and athletic and picks up sports easily. Fastidious, perfectionist, and self-conscious. In other words, he’s me.
