Raspberry Lemon Drop: The First Attempt

// 3.18.08 // Filed under: Thriving

I’ve recently been sorta obsessed with this Lemon Drop cocktail. Specifically, the Raspberry Lemon Drop. I’ve been Googling recipes (of which there are a few variations) and today I gathered the ingredients. Then I got the kids involved in juicing the lemons.

The finished product was less than stellar, but it WAS my first try. The pathetic part? I have no cocktail shaker/mixer, so I had to shake it with ice in a tupperware. Yeah, that’s how cool I am.

I’m off now for my second attempt. I’ll strain the lemon juice better to get rid of the pulp and I’ll add more syrup - it was too bitter/sour.

BTW, I got the recipe and some good tips here.

  1. You have to love a woman who trains her kids early to make her cocktails. Here I worried you homeschooling types didn’t know how to party?? ;)

    Try finding something GLASS to mix with. Tupperware (being plastic) does not give you the proper cold environment (the glass gets colder as you shake, helping make the liquid colder).

    Syrup? Are you using simple syrup?

    Try this. Before you mix the lemon juice, using your finger, moisten the rim of the glass with the lemon juice, and then dip it in sugar (much like salt on a Margarita).

    Enjoy!

    Awesome!! I thought I was the only one with a kid mixologist! And funny about the tupperware. I just made a martini last night by shaking it in a tupperware with ice. I have a legit martini shaker but we’re about to do some remodeling so I had packed most of my barware in a box already. Not bad though. It got the job done!
