December Diet Challenge: Exercise

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day? Really?

My breakfast challenge from last week seems to be a failure. I had oatmeal, eggs, and yogurt in various forms over the past week. And instead of a healthy breakfast holding me over until lunch, I was hungry by 10 am (having had breakfast at around 7 am). Conversely, when I just have coffee and a piece of toast or a mini-muffin for breakfast, I usually don’t need to eat until 11 am or Noon. Anyone else experience this? Perhaps my body needs to get used to the healthy breakfast thing?

An increased water intake definitely helps curb my appetite and gives me more energy. Each morning I fill a large bottle with water and fresh-squeezed lemon. I drink two of these each day.

The scale has been up and down 2 pounds all week, so I can’t say either of these tactics alone are affecting my weight at all. Now, on to this week’s focus: Exercise!

I really love to exercise, but like many people, I have a tough time choosing exercise over the many other things I like to do with my free time. This week I am going to keep to my exercise schedule no matter what. Exercise is also a great stress-reducer – a nice break to treat yourself to this time of year.

    When I was doing a diet program earlier this year I was eating ever two hours – the first few weeks I felt completely stuffed! But after that my body adjusted and I didn’t have to keep track of time because I felt hungry. I say eat more often.

    Oh and I am not good at exercising at all. LOL But today I went for a walk with the DH and kids and I think we were gone for 20 minutes? Good times. :)

    I believe the phrase “everything in moderation” applies here. However, it is best to eat 6-8 small meals/snacks each day than 3 larger meals. Also, some foods are better at increasing metabolism and encouraging digestion than others. Vitamins will also ensure that your body’s enzymes mroe efficiently bind to and process various foods for maximum benefit. Pick up a good dietary book for additional info.

    I have the same problem when I eat a “real” breakfast, I end up starving by 10-11am and the whole eating pattern for the day is thrown completely out of whack.

    I tried to stick to the program this week, but like you I was hungry mid morning when I ate breakfast. However, I did notice that I ate less in the evening when I ate breakfast. I didn’t do too well with the water either. I usually had a Dr. Pepper or hot tea. Sorry I’ll try again with the water thing. Are you sure it’s not too early to start exercising? Shouldn’t we stretch for a week or four before we move right into exercise?

    Bananas, baby!

    A banana works for me in the morning. There’s no prep work, it’s satisfying, and it’s soo easy. I can grab it on the way out the door and whip the peel out the window without guilt when I’m finished. It tides me over pretty good until lunch, and doesn’t make me ravenous by 11 a.m.

    YES!! I usually just have a cup of coffee and that’s it :X and I’m not hungry again until at LEAST eleven, if not later…but since I always feel like I “should” eat breakfast…I try it for a few days, then I end up pigging out all.day.long. starting at 10. it’s wierd!!! blah. lol ;)
