Overwhelmed

// 8.8.07 // Filed under: Parenting, Thriving

I am completely overwhelmed this week. Too many trips, family visits and vacations back-to-back. There’s so much I want to read, research and blog about after BlogHer. But I also want to finish the Harry Potter book, plan our fall schedule (not a light task for a homeschooler!), and take care of a multitude of other responsibilities such as lawn care, pool care, car maintenance, bills, banking, doctor’s appointments, and hair appointments. Add to all this the task of potty training and the laundry that goes along with it. As they say in that Thomas the Tank Engine movie, “Sometimes everything happens at once.”

My house is a mess (by my standards, but really not all that bad), and I haven’t exercised or slept well in a couple weeks. I went to bed early last night, but was awakened at 3 AM by a severe thunderstorm. Both kids woke up and were scared, so we all played musical beds with me sleeping with C and L moving into our bed with PHAT Daddy. After C fell back asleep, I ended up sleeping in L’s bed.

I have post-its and notes all over the place. It’s very unlike me to be this disorganized and it weighs heavily on my brain, causing a lot of stress. I need a solid block of time to get everything in it’s place.

My step-sister told me that she sits down every Sunday night and sets out her schedule for the next two weeks. Sounds like a great plan. I’m going to start doing it when we get back from vacation. But until then, I’m just hoping my brain doesn’t explode.

My son just informed me he has no clean shorts to wear. Guess I better get on that laundry…

    I was very frustrated as well with everything happening at once when I began potty training. So to help things along I began researching potty training and a common theme seemed to be praise and positive reinforcement. I came across a website called http://www.pottytrainingrewards.com. We hung it in the kitchen and named the little boy on the front of the package, Bobby. My son could not wait to go to the potty so he could push the button, hear the praising message, and get his chocolate reward from, Bobby. It really got my son excited about using the potty himself and it was fun for him. Because he became so involved, potty training was easy. So give it a try. Life is so much better now that potty training is behind us. Best of luck.

    I am very overwhelmed and unorganized right now plus my son start kindergarten tomorrow so I’m really just one big mess. :)

    Hey – sounds like sort of like my summer – and I swear it’s like I’m living right there, with you! Planning out the next two weeks sounds good, too, in theory!

    Yeah, overwhelmed, disorganized, and out of clean shorts. That’s about it over here too!

    THANK YOU. Because I’m so very overwhelmed this week,too. I told Mr. Flinger, “Look! I didn’t even do the dishes, aren’t you proud?” but now I have to go do the dishes. What I should do is sleep. Or read your blog.

    I think I’ll do the latter. ;-)
