The TiVo Generation

Yesterday my daughter watched The Little Mermaid (the tv show) for the first time. When it was over, she wanted to watch it again.

“I didn’t record it, honey. We have to wait until it’s on TV again to watch it.”

She was clearly perplexed. “But I want to watch it.”

“I know, but I didn’t record it.”

“Just put it on!”

Sigh.

Another cute tidbit I’d like to remember:

Me, getting C ready to go out: “Ready Freddy?”

C, quite angry: “Mommy! Don’t say that!”

Me: “Why?”

C: “I am NOT Freddy!”

:-D

We had similar TiVo-induced confusion at the movies. We took the kids to see Santa Claus II when my son was about 4. It was one of the first times he’d been in a movie theater. He cried at the end when we told him we couldn’t just push a button so he could watch it again.

I keep forgetting that I don’t have DVR in my bedroom, and when I miss a piece of a TV show, my first instinct is to rewind and watch it again. . . then I realize I can’t. It happened in the movie theater once, too. And I’m 30.

Dawson doesn’t understand the rules of TV either. We watch Bob the Builder on PBS and he always wants me to put it back on, or rewind it!

LOL! My daughter doesn’t get it that Dora is not on 24-7 anywhere except for our house. Whenever we go visit someone else, there is always a huuuuuuuge ordeal re: why THEY don’t have Dora. The nerve. :-)

Hi, I found you via another blog somewhere… couldn’t tell you where (I do not remember - long day). You’re TIVO conversation is definitely one we have had in our house too. We get “what do you mean you can’t fast forward?” a lot. I also get the same response to “ready freddy”… the cute part is it’s almost like she is offended that I called her Freddy. Silly kids. (and I’m glad I stumbled across you)

Yeah, I realized the other day that as long as my kids will remember there will have been TIVO around. Scary!
We love our TIVO so much we miss it when we are out of town. Sad. I know.
