Things Making Me Happy Today

1. It’s finally raining. I like opening the windows, listening to and smelling the rain, and curling up on a cool gray day with a blanket. It’s such a nice reprieve from the dog days of summer. And it means I don’t have to run the sprinkler today for…

2. …our new sod. Our front lawn before:

Our lawn now:

Isn’t it just gorgeous? We have not had ANY lawn for three years, so I’m completely thrilled. I just stand by the window and stare at it sometimes. We’re going to put some landscaping around those two tree stumps next year when we have the budget for it.

3. My son is finding his own books in the library and reading them himself:

4. And then there’s this one, of course. We’ll all be reading that together, as much as he wants to read ahead on his own!

5. L & I had a great time Friday night at the Harry Potter festivities around town. First we went to our library, where they had a scavenger hunt, Potter Jeopardy, and various crafts and games. Then we headed over to Borders where the crowd was gathered to pick up their books at midnight. We were getting ours the next day via Amazon.com, but it was still a blast to be at Borders. They had a Harry Potter spelling bee, a costume contest (some really great ones – more adults than children!), spell-casting trivia, Snape Bingo, face painting and more. Expelliarmus!

6. As for C, she’s doing pretty well with potty training. But you probably don’t want to see a photo of my dear daughter pooping in her Dora underpants, so here’s something cuter:

    WOW, what a huge difference!!

Your daughter’s blue eyes are simply amazing (she got them from mom, right?).

That’s a lot to be happy about. Your kids are beautiful and I don’t say that unless I mean it.

Hey, I was at the party at Borders on Friday night! It was insane there, and we were just hanging out with friends for the evening who picked up orange wrist bands in the morning.

I hope you left late enough to miss the traffic on Route 80. Took us an hour to do the normal 20 minute trip, and the fact it was midnight made it even less fun.
