That’s a great idea if you can find another homeschooling family in an area you would like to swap to as such a home is bound to have many resources that would be useful and educational for your own children. However, if you can’t find a suitable home exchange from lists of fellow homeschooling families, you can still swap homes to save the cost of expensive hotels or rentals, perhaps staying longer so your family really gets to know a new neighbourhood, by considering a ‘regular’ home exchange service like our own, Home Base Holidays (http://www.homebase-hols.com). Our agency is based in London (so lots of opportunities to swap to the UK and the rest of Europe) and has been operating since 1985. See my blog for more information about home swapping:

Very interesting concept. I’m not sure how I feel about it though. Opening up my home for a family that I don’t know very well? Not sure if I could do that, but definitely a cool concept.

Thank you Sharron for spreading the word.

I noticed I had received quite a number of “hits” from this forum. I just had to drop by and say “hi”.

We have grown quite a bit in the past year. We have 620 members on our email list, almost 100 families listed full-time on our website that you can contact at anytime and now we have a Yahoo!Group (under the same name) to form a community.

We offer home exchange and family hosting services.

For example, we swapped with a family from Minneapolis, MN for 5 days. We had a lovely time at their home and they said they had a wonderful time in ours.

The previous month we hosted a family from Okalahoma. It was actually our first hosting and we had a ball.

Keep in mind, that by the time you get to the physical exchange, you will have been in contact with the family for months. Learning about each other, their area, local treasures and more. The best part is that this is strictly for homeschooling families, so you already have something in common.

Home exchanging have saved us thousands of dollars and has allowed us to visit locations that we otherwise would not have been able to afford.

    Enjoy!
