Vegas, Baby!

I am writing to you now from a cafe at the Las Vegas Hilton. PHAT Daddy is at a trade show doing business and I am spending my morning relaxing with a large cup of coffee, a chocolate chip crumb muffin, and my laptop. Soon, I will be off to the pool to swim, read, relax and partake of fruity beverages. Ah, this is the life.
Our flight was long and uneventful until the landing. Undoubtedly the WORST landing of my life. Both PHAT Daddy and I were about 30 seconds from hurling — and I never get motion sickness. But it was soon over and we were shuttling to our hotel. Ya know what really bugs me about traveling and waiting in lines and/or on buses? Those people who feel it’s necessary to have their conversations LOUD ENOUGH SO EVERYONE CAN HEAR THEM. I mean, are you really that important that you want the whole world to know your business?
So we arrived, freshened up, and immediately hit the Star Trek Experience (if you’re not familiar with Star Trek, you won’t fully appreciate the next few paragraphs). First we ate at Quark’s Bar. We ordered cocktails, which the bartender got wrong. Our server offered to correct them, of course, but we decided to just try out what he brought us: The Risa Colada. It was made with Malibu Rum, which I’m not fond of, but I have to admit the drink was pretty yummy. And check out how cool it looks!
For an appetizer we had chicken fingers in a Vulcan hot sauce (holy shit, there were the hottest thing I have ever tasted), and for dinner I had a Photon Torpedo (hot italian sub) and PHAT Daddy had a HamBORGer. Just reading the menu was fun, with all the choices named in Star Trek-ese.
Several characters wandered the dining room. The costumes were incredible and the actors very authentic, conversing with guests in perfect representation of their character. We spoke to a Klingon, a Romulan, and a Ferengi. Here I am rubbing Rom’s ears (a Ferengi’s ears are kinda like their penis!):
After dinner we went to the Star Trek exhibit. I was a little wary of spending $43 per person, but it was so worth it. In addition to viewing tons of costumes, props and displays, we went on the two “rides”: The Borg Experience and The Klingon Invasion. I had expected to walk into a room, sit in a motion simulator, and enjoy the ride — but it was so much more! We got to walk through several different Star Trek settings, riding a turbo-lift, simulating being “beamed up,” and experiencing a Borg invasion where Borg actors walked right up to us! The coolest part of the Borg show was the “4D” experience. Wearing 3D glasses, we got to experience capture by the Borg and see those little whirring needles coming at our face to assimilate us. The ride even had some sort of pokers implanted in our chairs that poked us gently at just the right time. It was so awesome.
More updates and a photostream will follow. I’m off to the pool!

Vegas Needs A New Tag Line

You HAVE to go back to the bar and order a “7 of 9.” And please get the recipe for me! It’s something like frangelico, half and half, creme de cacao…but I can’t remember. There was a summer when my husband went to NAB and came back with that recipe and we drank that heavenly drink a. lot.
Not good for the figure, but oh, well.
Vegas is notorious for awful landings. Something about the wind and the desert and, I don’t know, God’s will.
Sounds like a pretty excellent escape from reality to me. My sister’s in Vegas right now, and it sounds HOT. Which is fine as long as you have a pool and cocktails nearby! enjoy!
I am jealous! Please bring me back one of those jacket thingies Captain Picard wore in like the 4th season of STTNG!
We are big Star Trek fans so we are all green with envy.
The drinks look yummy.
Oh *damn* you…..would have loved all of it. Will have to go sometime. Just need to find a babysitter….btw…what did you do with the kids?

thisKat – You are correct! The Seven of Nine drink is made with Frangelico, Creme de Cacao and cream. I didn’t get a chance to try it though. Here’s another that sounds yummy, a Tamarian Frost made with Vanilla Vodka, Godiva chocolate liquer, butterscotch and cream.
Nepharia – the kids stayed with Grandma & Grandpa.
Shannon, I can’t believe you made it with a Ferengi while Phat Daddy photographed you. Two nights away from the kids and you’ve become a wild woman.
I’m glad you had such a fun trip. You deserve it!
That is awesome. I want to visit the ST experience someday. I lurve ODO. xD
thanks…
im a big fan of Vegas , hope sometime i go there
