Memed In So Many Ways
// 6.6.07 // Filed under: Link Love, Thriving
I’m not big on memes except for the occasional exceptionally unique idea that might come my way. But in the past few days, I’ve been tagged by three people and, well, since I haven’t had a whole lotta other writing going on here, I thought, “What the hell.”
Babytalkers wants to know seven random things about me. Alasandra does it one better, demanding eight things. And Mama Saga asks me to name my five favorite charities. So here goes…
Eight Things About Shannon
- I’m working on losing 25 pounds and I’m currently down 9 pounds.
- I am taking my first trip to Las Vegas next week!
- I love to gamble.
- We’re going to ride the Star Trek ride in Las Vegas.
- I love Barry Manilow, but won’t be seeing him in Vegas because I recently saw his Vegas show in NYC. And because PHAT Daddy really couldn’t stand the torture.
- I really hate sitting here trying to think of eight things to write about myself.
- I saw the Karate Kid movies last week for the first time in my life. Karate Kid rocks!
- I saw Pirates 3 last week. Better than the 2nd, not as good as the 1st. Orlando Bloom is hot in all three.
Charities. I must admit that I am somewhat cynical when it comes to charities, after hearing certain reports of people lining their own pockets and money not really going where it’s meant to. I prefer to give of my time and to help people, places, and organizations I know personally. That said, there are a few charities that I favor:
As per the rules, here is the list of all charities mentioned by those who participated in this meme before me.
- The American Heart Association: research to understand and heal hearts
- For Hearts and Souls: a chance at life for children in impoverished communities
- Sew Much Comfort: customized clothing for injured heroes
- Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund: provide for the child of a fallen hero
- Doctors Without Borders: delivers emergency medical aid to those in direst need
- LDS Humanitarian Services â donate to charity
- American Red Cross â emergency response
- Wasatch Homeless Health Care Incorporated/4th Street Clinic â health care for the homeless
- Newborns in Need â knitting for preemies
- Habitat for Humanity
- American Red Cross – disaster relief
- Raleigh Rescue Mission – homeless raleigh
- SOS ChildrenâÂÂs Villages – sponsor a child
- SamaritanâÂÂs Purse – emergency relief programs
- St. Jude ChildrenâÂÂs Hospital – cancer research
- The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation – children with AIDS
- Make a Wish Foundation – grant a child’s wish
- Save the Children – children in poverty
- Ronald McDonald House – helping sick children and families
- Toys for Tots – toys for all kids

Thanks for being a good sport!
I’m with ya though, I hated having to come up with a list of things about myself too.
We got a good family friend a gift from Heifer International last Christmas!
Thanks for playing along
Shannon,

Detailed info about most charities.
I can’t wait to see Pirates 3. I’m glad to hear it’s better than the 2nd one. But, the first will always be the best. And yes, Orlando is a hottie!
Is 25 pounds the magic number? I’m currently trying to drop those pregnancy pounds before a trip to Mexico in August. Sooooo much fun, isn’t it?
And I cannot believe you have never seen The Karate Kid. Ahhh, the countless hours I spent coveting Ralph Macchio….
Congrats on the weight loss.
We recently adopted two kittens from the Spay and Neuter Alliance so they are high on my list of charities at the moment.
Many pet shelters, and pet rescues really need donations of pet food at the moment.
Oh, I’m so jealous of your trip to the Star Trek Experience. Every Trekkie/Trekker who’s been that I’ve talked to about it says it’s excellent.
Great list.
I’ve been tagged, too. And I decided to list 8 things about the blog.
Have a great weekend!
