ItâÂÂs Bizarre How Much IâÂÂm Looking Forward to This Surgery

Wednesday morning I go under the knife. IâÂÂm getting a tubal ligation and a repair of an umbilical hernia. And IâÂÂm SO looking forward to it.
The tubal is pretty self-explanatory: no more babies for me. And no more birth control pills. People have had various reactions of surprise when IâÂÂve mentioned my plan. âÂÂAre you sure you want to do that?â Absolutely. IâÂÂm 38 and happily married with a son and a daughter. ThereâÂÂs no way I am interested in having any more children. âÂÂWhy donâÂÂt you have your husband take care of that?â Well, frankly, thatâÂÂs just none of anyoneâÂÂs business. âÂÂAre you nervous about having surgery?â Nope. IâÂÂm kinda surprised about this myself, but I have absolutely no nervousness. IâÂÂve had general anesthesia before. IâÂÂve even had a similar surgery before.
Not only do I have no apprehension, IâÂÂm actually psyched about the surgery. After the tubal, a second surgeon comes in to take care of my umbilical hernia. When I was pregnant with my second child, my belly button popped WAY out and never went back to normal. ItâÂÂs ugly and I thought I was stuck with it — an unfortunate result of being pregnant and stretched. Then my doctor told me it was actually a hernia and could easily be repaired. Wahoo!
No more birth control concerns. A nice âÂÂinnyâ belly button again. Tylenol with codeine. And â perhaps the most attractive part of all this? – at least two days of lying in bed while my family takes care of me.

Oh, I agree. Three days, minimum! Congrats on knowing what you want and going for it — I kind of envy the peace of mind you’re going to have every month now.
Oh man, I think I have a huge umbilical hernia. I heard insurance usually doesn’t pay for it to be fixed, unless it’s causing real issues, though.
But it’s so incredibly ugly. And it doesn’t make wearing pants easier.

I think that you’ve made the right decision. I think that it’s good to have kids in your 20’s into your mid 30’s, you know because of health concerns, fertility, and all that jazz. I hope that you’re recovering well!

Tylenol with Codeine? No, no, no. You have to insist on Vicidon at the least. And after you’ve taken that, see if you can get bumped up to Percodan! Now that will totally make it worthwhile! Yay drugs!
I’ll be thinking about you! I had a tubal immediately after my last c-section, because three kids is enough for us. It really is a relief not to have to worry about birth control any more. Enjoy the pampering, I hope the pain isn’t too bad for you and that you get some good drugs

Stefanie – ha! I guess it’s been awhile since I’ve needed pain meds. Yes, they gave me percoset in the hospital – very nice!!! Then a prescription for vicodin, which has been serving me quite well the past couple days.
I had a tubal immediately after #4, and it was AWESOME. Rest up!
