Help Me Out With This Social Networking Thing
// 5.28.07 // Filed under: Tech & Blogging, Thriving
I’m really into blogging. Surfing the web is one of my top three favorite things to do. I love the whole sharing of information and experience thing. I want to read as much as possible and I hate the thought that I might be missing something. I’m even developing a new blog so I can blog more about blogging.
That said, you can see how I might get a little carried away with these social networking sites/tools. There are tons of them, and they all (most?) allow you to create your own page, join communities, rate/post/follow content, etc. Just when I think I’ve found a few I’m going to stick with, I come across another one.
I’d like to know what you think. What are your favorite networking sites? Which ones bring you the best content and return the most traffic to your site?

Experimenting with New Social Media Tools

I haven’t put a lot of thought into social networking sites; since most of them I’ve looked at in the past were either ad-based or wanted money to join up.
You do have a very good idea, especially in terms of setting up a blog about blogging. You could talk about what a blog is (you’d be surprised on how many people out there don’t know what a blog is), the different publishing platforms (such as Subtext, and Wordpress for example).
That being said, many areas of discussion open up when it comes to a blog about blogging, that’s for sure. I look forward to observing what you come up with.

Just found your blog and am enjoying my stay! I’d love to know the answers to your questions here, too. (((((HUGS))))) sandi
Interesting question…I don’t have much of an answer, I’m still figuring out the whole online social networking thing myself.
To be honest I like the social bookmarking sites better. I think you have to put a lot into the social networking sites like myspace and keep up with others. That would cut into too much of the little time I have online already. But with social bookmarking (e.g.delicious etc) I find it easier to find new things I like. My favourite is Stumble upon. I find all sorts of goodies like that. As for driving content and return. I never did if for that yet. Although I know it’s possible. Write a blog entry that gets ‘dugg’ or stumbled upon etc and you get a truck load of visitors. Something to think about… I just use it to find cool new stuff
Stumbleupon has brought a lot of traffic my way, but I never really enjoyed participating in that community. I think I’m going to give it another try.
I do like MyBlogLog. I’ve met a lot of great bloggers there.
I’ve blogged on a few sites, but then dropped out as my kids have gotten older. Connect With Kids has a new networking community, and the site has a wealth of information about the issues kids deal with, especially as they get into the tween and teen years.
Pick me! Pick me!
lol
I just started up http://www.unbridledlearning.com a site specifically for homeschoolers to post and vote for posts that they like. Like digg, only for homeschoolers and it’s not even religious-leaning. It has the potential to become very useful and traffic generating, so keep it in mind!
Soon we will even have voting buttons you can place in your posts, similar to those “Digg this” buttons you see around.
Hey, I like mybloglog a lot, and some others I can’t think of right now
but mybloglog is the one that made me find your site, so thats awesome!
I like Maya’s Mom and MyBlogLog and Twitter. Twitter doesn’t bring me a lot of traffic, but it’s fun and relaxed and I like it.
You’re right, there are so many of them, hard to keep up with, looks like ApSense may be the newest kid on the block. To see any real impact, it seems that you have to contribute and network regularly. I’ve signed up for a few others, but honestly only visit and participate at Maya’s Mom and WAHM.com on a regular basis, and another smaller message board where I bonded with a few ladies from a previous company. I’ve had to leave MySpace alone for a while because of the spam and phishing issues. Sorry I couldn’t be of much more help to you…
I’m just doing the BlogHer tour and happened upon your site. But social networking? Noooo idea! Kind of explains why, as my favorite three-year-old neighbor imploded, “I ain’t got no friends.”
You have been tagged for the MEME 8 things about me. Drop by Alasandra for instructions.
There’s a brand new social networking site just for homeschoolers: MyHomeschoolPlace.com. The site is relatively new, but I’ve already met some really cool mamas. I know there are new sites popping up all the time… that’s the main reason I have never joined any of them! ~Christina
Good question. I am also addicted to social networking sites/tools. I have tried so many differnt ones but so far BlogLog seems to be the best. I know you are on it because that is how I found your site.

Digg has helped. I think the key is the more the better.
I have heard that myspace is a great way to get traffic.

Don’t know if you have the time, but I just tagged you with a charity meme…hope you can check it out!
I am glad to know I am not the only Mama that loves surfing the web! I have just been into blogging for a short time, don’t know much about networking…. but I am glad I found your blog! It is very interesting! You can tell that you love blogging and are quite the people person! I appreciate you posting this question, I am going to check out MyBlogLog now!! Hope to meet lots of new people!
with social networking sites, you get two benefits, first you get traffic to your site, and second you will get lots of idea and subject for blogging. I use digg, netscape, and reddit a lot. If you are serious about blogging, then using social networking site is a must.
