Hot Dogs and Coca-Cola

Today in history:

  1. Coca-cola was invented in 1886. I found this article interesting, if a bit alarmist.
  2. Oscar Mayer’s birthday. Read about the history of hot dogs. Then create this simple Hot Dog Vendor box with your kids. And I bet imaginative children can find all kinds of uses for this craft besides playing “hot dog vendor.”

I didn’t realize that Coke did all that to your body as you drink it. I’m not suprised, though.

Actually, that kind of made me want to have a Coke. I’m such a freaking sugar junky.

Interesting Coke article. I’m going to have to have my son read it. I’ve been saying as much but he just won’t listen.

Good lord. I wonder what he would write about turkey.

Minute 30: Now the insulin in your body causes you to pump tryptophan into your brain!

Minute 45: That tryptophan is turned into serotonin, a chemical is might be implicated in SIDS!

Minute 60: Your pineal gland turns the serotonin into melatonin, which is the same chemical that is produced when you take LSD or cocaine!

Minute 70: As leftover serotonin is broken down, your body excretes 5-HIAA, a chemical that is correlated with some tumors and cancers!

It’s not worth the paper it’s printed on. ;) (Yes I totally made up those times above, and played very fast and loose with real, actual facts.)

Reminds me of the FAQ about banning “dihydrogen monoxide”
