The State of the Family Address 2007

// 1.16.07 // Filed under: Thriving

This post was long. Quite long. I’ve been writing it, reading it, re-writing it and re-reading it. Then I came to an epiphany. I deleted all the blah, blah, blah and realized that my current state of mind and goals for this year can be summed up in two words:

Focus. Balance.

So there it is. But because I am a compulsive self-analyzer, permit me to expound a bit.

Family/Personal: I haven’t been blogging (reading or writing) much since the holidays. I’ve let emails go unanswered for – gasp! – more than 12 hours. I’ve played with my family after dinner instead of running away to lock myself in a quiet room with my laptop. I’ve exercised. I’ve watched TV. And I almost felt a little, well, less stressed.

This morning I turned on my computer to see the many blog posts in my Feedreader program that I want to catch up on, the blog designs I’m working on, and the information I’m researching on the Solar System for L. The stress started to creep back in. But just a little. It’s tempered. I’m not in panic mode. After years of working on this emotional reflex, I just MIGHT be getting it. I might finally be learning how to balance.

Health: This one’s easy. Exercise more and eat less. I’m not going out on any limb, swearing off white flour, sugar, cheese fries and all things that are good and holy in this world. I’m just going to be more aware of my choices and make more time for exercise. Again, focus and balance.

Career: I declare 2007 my “Year of Creativity.” I’m going to learn more about design so I can help PHAT Daddy with business. I’m going to slowly start building a portfolio and clientele for web site design. I’m going to keep on top of my scrapbooking hobby, immediately printing photos after each event and scrapbooking them ASAP.

PHAT Mommy’s Goals for 2007:

  1. Lose and keep off 25 pounds.
  2. Spend more quality time with my man and my kids (aka put the laptop away).
  3. Stay current with scrapbooking.

This is where I try to think of some witty or inspirational message to conclude my State of the Family Address. Alas, I have nothing more to say. Why? Because I am off to play with my children.

    “Daddy, who’s this strange lady, and why is she trying to play Parcheesi with us?”

  2. YOu hit the nail on the head! Balance is key. This is a wonderful time to realize that you won’t ever look back and regret not reading blogs quickly enough, but you may regret not playing more with the family.

    Finding balance can also come in a round about way. I am going balls out in the other direction, hoping that when I lose steam I will fall somewhere into a happy medium! LOL!!

    Your list sounds very similar to mine. Even the number of pounds to lose. Definitely the computer has become something I use to escape, so I’ll be cutting back on that too. And I’m going to try to retrain my brain to be more emotionally balanced (that pathway training I found).

    Best of luck reaching your goals in 2007!
