Frosting. From the Can. Rocks.

// 12.12.06 // Filed under: My Daughter, My Son, Parenting, Thriving

Yesterday was our annual cookie-decorating day. Some years we get fancy, but this year we just baked sugar cookies and chocolate chip cookies and decorated them with frosting, mint M&Ms, sprinkles and crushed up candy canes. Not as yummy as the chocolate-dipped oreos we made last year, but Duncan Hines frosting from the can? Yeah.

I gave L & C each a sheet of wax paper and some dough. C smashed M&Ms into her dough, then picked them out and ate them. In the end, she ended up with a swirly wad of sugar and chocolate chip dough with a few M&Ms stuck in. And ya know? It tasted divine.

She also decorated a sugar cookie with frosting and sprinkles. She kept saying “See my cookie? See? See?”

L was more meticulous in his decorating, making careful patterns on his stars and trees and wiping his hands clean any time they got too flour- or frosting-covered.

I’m getting excited for the holidays. My new winter blog design is up (with props to Emily at Swank Web Style for assistance with the code). I’m making our holiday cards now – which I love and look forward to every year. My shopping is nearly done and we travel to visit family so I don’t have to cook or host anything at my own home (which is both good and bad). We have Hanukkah celebrations this weekend, a holiday party with homeschool friends next week and Christmas celebrations the following weekend. Sparkly cards, family updates and photo greetings arrive daily, reminding me how fast time goes by.

Take some time to slow down and enjoy your holiday season. And by all means, eat some frosting from the can.

Lifelong memories are made of this. Great captures with the camera, too!

Every year, I look forward to eating latkes. Then I eat them, and I immediately swear I’ll never eat ‘em again.

  3. That looks like a fun day! Buttercream is my favorite from the can…pure sugar rush! We will be doing our next week, so we have lots of extra cookies around for holiday visitors.

Love the new design! You have been busy dear!!

Most of the time I try to go for the healthy stuff – no food coloring, no weird fats… but canned frosting is the only way to go for cooky decorating. And gotta have the sprinkles!
