Top Ten Reasons I Will Not Post Daily After NaBloPoMo

// 11.24.06 // Filed under: Thriving

  1. Sitting in front of the computer at 11:30 pm and hoping for inspiration is getting old.
  2. Entertaining people with mundane daily details is not my forte.
  3. I want to devote more time to Homeschool Hacks.
  4. Posting daily sucks up time that I normally spend reading blogs.
  5. I have a bunch of half-finished thoughts that I need several days to flesh out, but daily posting takes time away from that.
  6. My life just isn’t that exciting.
  7. Getting in the habit of writing daily is useful. Forcing myself to post something – anything – is not useful.
  8. When I actually fall asleep in the middle of composing a post, something’s seriously wrong.
  9. Checking my traffic stats is not as much fun when my traffic is going down.
  10. Quality is better than quantity.

    The blogger in me doesn’t participate in these things for precisely these reasons: I write when I feel motivated, and I hate feeling like I HAVE to crank something out, just to fill space.

    The other side of my writer’s persona is somewhat more business-like. When I write in the real world, I have to hit the deadline, otherwise I’ll never get paid. Even if I’m not feeling the literary love that day, I must force myself to gut it out.

    Perhaps because I have to suck it up so often when I’m working, I refuse to do it when I’m blogging. Either way, you’re always worth reading. The month is THIS close to being over. Sleep in after that – you’ve earned it.
