Sometimes I Feel a Little Blurry

// 11.29.06 // Filed under: Link Love, Thriving

11-29-06blurryFor the past few days I’ve been feeling “off.” I haven’t been getting enough sleep, I haven’t made progress toward my goals, and I haven’t been exercising or eating well. I’ve also been sweating the small stuff in a big way.

I go through this more often than I’d like. I often re-evaluate my life and wonder how I can do X, Y or Z, when I never really gave last month’s X, Y or Z a chance. I enjoy the process of planning and scheduling, but not the process of implementing. I suppose I am a born manager. ;-)

But managers need to see their projects through. Evaluation is fine as long as you keep your eye on the prize. When I don’t get results fast enough, I just change the plan and sometimes even the goal.

Right now I feel blurry, as in unfocused. I haven’t had much (any) down time or quiet, alone time in the past few weeks and I know I need that to get my focus back. That and a solid night of sleep that’s not broken by my children’s coughing fits or bad dreams.

Spunky has a great post about the recent Unschooling Conspiracy. Go check it out. I’ll have more to say about this topic tomorrow.

I sometimes go through this as well. I used to get so stressed over little things not working that way I wanted, I’d pick up a book and read, totally ignoring things altogether. I read a great book that changed my persepctive on things, “In Praise of Slowness.” I realized that I was the only really making my life crazy, through over-scheduling or unrealistic goals. I stopped beating myself up if life got in the way and I hadn’t finished half my “to-do” list. I now look at things differently, and just work to meet deadlines of those things that really have them (ie. lesson plans for classes I teach must be done by class, but lessons for our homeschool are more flexible).
I hope you enjoy a great day of relaxation and rest my dear!

Hey, I know how you feel. I make plans and create goals but can’t seem to stick with them. I don’t have the stressed part too much. I’m just not real motivated during this time of the year to work or do much of anything but eat and play with the boys.

    Hey,

I found your blog ages ago for another reason, but I recently read your post on media’s attention to homeschooling. I came across something I wanted to share. Doc Searls is a huge person in the business blogsphere and his post today fits in exactly with what you said recently. Enjoy…

Yeah, I know about the blurry thing – don’t know any moms who don’t – though some won’t admit it. This is my third try posting this comment. The last two tried were interrupted; the most recent by a doll crisis (I have an almost-8-year-old girl). Going too long without some down time is sure to bring on the blurs, or a little crabbiness, or something.

I think we all find ourselves a little blurry from time to time. I work hard to follow through on a basic philosophy – I am a sum of many parts. When one of those parts starts to get ignore, all of the parts suffer. It forces me to find that ‘me’ time to recharge and refocus. Yet it also forces me to realize sometimes that to-do list isn’t quite as pressing as I imagine it to be. Good luck.

Well I’ve never heard it called blurry but I sure have ‘been there done that’ including feeling that way just a couple of weeks ago. I know EXACTLY what you are talking about.

It does feel nice to come out of that zone when one finally emerges.

My last steps are to restart an exercise regime and now that the Halloween candy eating is done, to clean up the other not so healthy eating habits.
