Ask Yoda
// 9.1.06 // Filed under: My Daughter, Parenting
We have a Yoda doll that answers yes or no questions when you squeeze his hand. It’s a Magic 8 Ball, Star Wars style. Tonight, L was fooling around, asking Yoda some questions. A minute later, C walks over, looks at Yoda and says, “Mommy sleep in C’s bed for night?” Then she waited for Yoda to respond.
Do you think this is an amazing thing for a nearly-two-year-old to do? I was stunned that she not only understood to ask Yoda a question, but that the type of question she asked was right on target: something she wants to happen, but knows it probably will not. I am a bit biased, but I think she’s a genius.
These are the fun little anecdotes that blogging helps to preserve for generations to come.

So what did Yoda say? Is Yoda making you sleep in Leia’s bed tonight?
I would have to agree, that is genius material.
Not only did she know to ask a question and what kind of question to ask, but that Mommy will always listen to a Jedi Master.
You are SO right. I know I have long forgotten so much from my older two kids’ childhoods (they are 13 & 11 now). Everytime I blog an anecdote like yours I actually feel relieved that the story won’t be lost somewhere in what’s left of my brain.
That is adorable. And shows that she is watching and learning a great deal despite moving like a human tornado! I remember when Reagan was about the same age, and not happy about switching from her crib to a bed. She came to me, gave me a cupcake and said, “Now you sleep with me?” How did the child know chocolate was the best bribe for me?
Yep, she sure is smart and knows what she wants. That’s great!
Not only that, but I bet she knew if she asked you, the answer would be no. So she was testing boundaries too, by going to another authority figure . . .
