Homeschooling Day in the Life
Sheryl of Paper Napkin initiated a fun blog post meme called A Day in the Life. I’ve recently been thinking how cool this would be if applied to the homeschooling community.
Many people wonder what we DO all day when we homeschool. Some people have a “school room” where they study for a certain time period each day. Others unschool and find opportunities for learning in every aspect of living. So think about this: If enough people post (or email me) their “Homeschooling Day in the Life,” the archive of those posts would serve as excellent insight into the various styles of homeschooling. Right? Right? And, of course, these posts would be a wonderful way to document your homeschooling life - something your children might someday be very interested in reading.
Here’s my challenge to my fellow homeschoolers: Write a post on your blog that describes what you did on a certain day. Every minute - from the moment you wake to the moment you go to sleep. Include all the mundane details. You’ll find when you read other people’s posts that the mundane isn’t really all that boring. It’s real and human and it helps us all connect. I’ll be posting mine tomorrow, but if you want to see an example, here’s a previous post. If you don’t have a blog, you can email your Homeschooling Day in the Life to phatmommy (at) gmail (dot) com and I’ll post it for you. I’ll keep an archive of posts over at my new blog, Homeschool Hacks.
Oh! What’s that? A new web site? YES! The “new idea” I’ve been alluding to for months is ready for launch. I’m adding new content every day and eagerly awaiting your education hacks. Homeschooler or not, you’ll find inspiring ideas at Homeschool Hacks. Go check it out!

PHAT = Parenting, Homeschooling And Technology. That about sums up my life at the moment.

This is such a good idea! I would do it except we’re in Texas for the month of September. So our homeschool day consist of whatever we can squeeze in between drives across the state. But I’m doing this in October and I’ll link back to you. Great idea.

I tried my hand at homeschooling when my son was 7 or 8. It was very difficult. You have to write curriculum, lesson plans, schedule field trips, etc. I give a standing ovation to homeschool parents(and children). Again, I only did it for one year but that was a very long year:) People shouldn’t be quick to judge homeschool parents. They are doing what they believe is best for the children. We should support them.
