Workshop Topic #1: Audience Building
Elise Bauer talks traffic: how to build it, how to understand your site statistics, how to optimize your site to build search engine traffic, how to use syndication and subscriptions to build recurring traffic…the works!
Discussion Questions:
- What service/software do you use to track your site’s traffic? What’s good (or bad) about it?
- What’s been your most successful tool in generating more traffic to your blog?
- What do you know about syndication and subscriptions? Share!
Workshop Topic #2: $$$ Generation
There are many ways to monetize your blog. It’s hard to keep track. What’s the difference between BlogAds & AdSense? Chitika & LinkShare? And does ad placement really matter? Hint: Jennifer Slegg will tell you “yes.”
Discussion Questions:
- Do you use any ad network or affiliate programs to make money from your blog? Have they been worth it?
- How about traffic-swapping ads (no money, just exposure on other sites)? Are they worth the real estate on your blog?
- Share what you know about ad placement. What’s the best spot?
- Have you made money writing for other blogs? How did you get the writing gig? Did you pitch an idea or did someone offer the job to you?
- Any other ideas for making money from your blog?

These topics fascinate me, but I feel like I have nothing to contribute because I could really benefit from some advice and guidance in these areas. I have no idea how to increase traffic on my blog. I do not want to change the content or style to do it — so maybe I am just meant to have my 75 hits per day — about half of whom actually stay on my blog and read. I am looking forward to reading some of the responses!
I posted about this today. I also posted a few links to some previous blog posts on blogging that I have written. I have been blessed with a decent readership, but my blogging hasn’t changed much since I had an audience of one. If others are interested they can check out this link.

Cool idea! I found you via Mom101 today. And I am another BlogHer in spirit. I will try hard to get something posted about this today, but just wanted to jump in with a quick thought/question on audience building.
I would LOVE to know if anyone addresses building an audience of non-bloggers. Everything I’ve read on this topic seems to tell you how to get other bloggers to visit you (comment on other blogs, link to other blogs, etc.), but I would love to build more of an audience of “regular people”, not just bloggers. Am I the only one?

I have a fair number of non-bloggers who read my blog. My husband and I do some public speaking and I have been published in a few newsletters and a magazine. That has all helped contribute to a non-blogging audience.
I am extremely interested in hearing what people have to say about this. Like Kvetch, I feel I have nothing to contribute but a lot to learn. I didn’t discover till yesterday that I can use Technorati to find out who’s linking to me or mentioning me on their sites! I’m a total novice, which is inexcusable since I’ve been blogging for something like 9 months now. Thanks for spurring this discussion!

I am trying to build an audience of both bloggers and non-bloggers in the UK where a lot of women/mums don’t even know about blogging yet (I know!) I have been touting my blog on my ebay items as a link, and am even considering writing to ‘mummy’ magazines to raise awareness.

I’m looking to whiten my teeth but not sure which whitening kit is the best and was wondering if anyone had any advice.
I tried the crest whitestrips and they didn’t keep my teeth white.. they started turning yellow after a week or two.
