Mindless Entertainment for Children of the 70s-80s

I admit to being strangely attracted to VH1’s My Fair Brady. It’s Christopher Knight’s life in a reality show. Chris Knight, yeah, Peter Brady. He’s somewhere around 40 (Carli - I bet you know exactly) and dating this insanely hot model girl who’s like 20 and oh geez, he just can’t commit to her. In last year’s season finale he finally proposed. Yes, it’s so obviously staged and dramatized for reality TV, but still quite enjoyable to watch as mindless entertainment goes. In this season, the two get married and I was just watching the big wedding. Barry Williams (Greg Brady) sings them a song, and, hey, Johnny Bravo’s still got it.

After My Fair Brady, the World Series of Pop Culture came on. Tonight is the first time I’ve seen this show and people! I would kick some ass on this show. But Carli (PHAT Daddy’s cousin) would HAVE to be on my team. And my friend Carrie. They actually just asked this question on the show: What SNL character starred in a sketch singing “Wookin Pa Nub” and “Fee Tines a Mady?” The answer, of course, is Buh-Weet! Carrie and I used to just DIE laughing over this Eddie Murphy sketch. We’d sing the songs out in public and write notes to each other in Buh-Weet language. Damn, being 12 was SO much fun! CARRIE!!! Are you out there? Bwaa haaa haaa haaa!!!

You’re the second person in a week to tell me I should be on The World Series of Pop Culture–but the one time I turned it on, I got the first question wrong–I had no idea what the names of Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari’s characters were on Bosom Buddies. I admit I should watch VH-1 more often, but who wants to watch a bunch of people just like me?

Let’s see. . . Christoper Knight was about 11 when Brady Bunch premiered in 1969, so I’d guess he’s about 49 now. (I just checked. He’ll be 49 in November. Boo-ya!) And I’ll admit–when I sing the Brady Bunch theme, it’s usually the more advanced Brady BRIDES theme, to which I know all the lyrics. And once in college, I tried to name all 117 episodes. . .and I could.

The wedding party and church looked beautiful and I loved the red flower petals lining the aisle! And TV Land had a Brady Bunch marathon this weekend so you (me) could get your fill! ;o)

BUH-WEET!!!! Just a few months ago, you wrote in my birthday card that I was “Unce, tice, FEE TINES A MADY!”, and I almost died laughing! Oh my God - do you remember our “created” Buh-Weet saying? A cow?!? Still don’t know where we came up with that, and it never did make any sense, but we used to laugh until we had tears coming out of our eyes! Shannon - I nub noo!

Okay, I watched every single episode of the first season. Worse, I dvr’d it. I haven’t seen one this season but now you just made me wonder why not. Johnny Bravo serenading them! If that’s not an all-star tv moment, I don’t know what is.

I had the biggest crush on Peter. It just figures that he grew up to be a player. And I would do HORRIBLE on that pop culture show! But I bet it’s fun to watch.
