The New Supreme Court

From today’s New York Times:

The Supreme Court yesterday substantially diminished Americans’ right to privacy in their own homes. The rule that police officers must “knock and announce” themselves before entering a private home is a venerable one, and a well-established part of Fourth Amendment law. But President Bush’s two recent Supreme Court appointments have now provided the votes for a 5-4 decision eviscerating this rule.

This decision should offend anyone, liberal or conservative, who worries about the privacy rights of ordinary Americans.

How much more is this country going to stand for? Pick, pick, pick. The government is slowly stripping us of our right to be free. Be afraid of this new Supreme Court. Be very afraid.

Somewhere else someone left a pretty good no-knock knock-knock joke. At least joking about our fading freedoms isn’t against the law yet:

    Knock Knock.

    Who’s there?

    The Police.

Oh c’mon, everyone knows the police don’t knock. Who’s really there?

What that quote said was pure conjecture. The Times has an ax to grind against Bush. If you want real news out of New York, try the WSJ. They at least pretend to be fair.
