I So Don’t Feel Like Blogging Lately

I generally find it boring to read blog posts that recount mundane details and complaints about someone’s “bad day.” But, damn, I’ve had a string of bad days and well, if you can’t bitch on your own blog, where can you bitch?

I have about five posts started, but I’m not motivated to finish them. I’ve had a cold, or allergies, or allergies on top of a cold, for about two weeks now. I got stung by a bee in my pool. I haven’t worked out in weeks. This coming week I am scheduled to host a homeschooling activity for some of L’s friends, take the kids strawberry picking, and finish making the favors for my sister’s baby shower. Oh, and I have to buy my lover-of-all-things-messy daughter some new PJs since she ruined both pairs of her jammie shorts by staining them with paint/food/poop.

I’m just grumpy and I think the birth control pill is to blame. I’ve been unbelievably moody (no, I mean UNBELIEVABLY) since I started taking that little pill a couple weeks ago. I’ve been googling and asking friends and it seems that the pill makes quite a few people moody. A friend emailed me this: “I remember saying to someone that the reason that the bc pill works so well is because my husband doesn’t want to come anywhere near me.” Indeed.

So I’m tossing those little pills for now. We’ll see if it makes a difference.

And just so this post is not all gloom, here’s some good stuff! L is really getting into the scrapbooking thing. Here’s his latest:

And!!!! Look!!!! C is walking!!!!!!! Yep, she’s walking stronger, and for longer distances, every day.

walking!

Please, bitch freely! I hope you are feeling better soon…allergies and hormones are definitely reasons to be miserable.
Kuddos to Luke’s scrapbooking and Leia’s walking (she is too cute). Feel better soon!

would you mind sharing which brand of pills you’re taking? have heard it can lead to side effects, want to find out if one brand is worse than others. thanks.

Yep, I’d be bitchin’ too. Here’s what you do when you get fed up…YOU GO ON STRIKE. Let Leia wear the poopie PJs (washed, of course)-it will not hurt a thing, go buy some favors for your sister with the money you save from not having to buy new jammies, and put off strawberry picking until you feel like it. You’ll have more energy to play with sweet little Luke and his buddies, of course, in the backyard where the little critters can’t stain your carpet, AND with paper plates and paper cups! You don’t have to be Martha Stewart when you feel like shit, hell, you never have to be Martha Stewart.

Hormonal birth control makes all the women in my family crazy and miserable. Good luck to you!

Thanks all. I haven’t taken the damn pill in two days and I feel better already. But I also got some extra sleep this weekend, so I’m still holding out my final verdict.

As for the brand of pill, it’s a generic pill called Necon. I took the regular Ortho Novum years ago with no problems… I may try that again.

A couple of years ago, my ob-gyn put me on Mircette (birth control pill). It’s a wonderful thing - my “periods” last 2-3 days, and I haven’t had to use a tamp/pad since I’ve been on it-YEEEEHAA!! However, the pharmacy (for insurance reasons)changed me to the generic form (Kariva), and since then I have noticed a definite change in how I feel -I’m bloated, tired, and CRAVE carbs. I’m convinced that there is a difference, even though my doc and the pharmacist swear seven ways from sideways that they are the same (humph). Anyway, my point is - all Pills are not created equal, so there is no need to give up on it entirely. Also, there are other Pill options out there that may make your life even easier. Seasonal is a new Pill - only 4 periods a year. And, some ob-gyns will prescibe pills with no break, so that you NEVER get a period. Does life get any better then that?!?

Haha! The opening of this post made me laugh, because of what I posted today. :)

I can’t believe he did that scrapbook page, it’s awesome!

I’ve had the blogging blahs lately too. I hope your cold and allergies have gotten better.

Pills can indeed cause moodiness, among other problems, esp. when you first start taking them. I spend lots of time at a place with the initals PP answering questions about BCP side effects. Side effects, if any, vary per person, and also the level of hormones you are getting from the pill. The moodiness will most likely pass, we usually tell people to give it 3 months for things to settle down. Other side effects can be bloating, some break through bleeding, maybe a bit of acne. And very few (and I do mean few) people gain weight.

There are other options out there, including a lower dose of hormones in your BCPs, or trying a different method, such as the Nuva Ring or Patch.

Good luck with it all, and if it makes you feel any better, whenever I switch pills, I spend the first few days of each cycle feeling like I’m going to barf, which goes on for about 3 months.
