History is Being Rewritten

Over at The Homeschool Cafe, Alasandra wrote about her search for a history book “that actually teaches history and not some sanitized feel good fairy tale.”

Such history textbooks are harder and harder to find these days. There are countless examples of religious and ethnic groups demanding that historical accounts be softened and even completely altered to fit their desires.

This is a very important issue to me, and I believe it’s much bigger than just “teaching history” - there is an entire political and social agenda behind it. If you’re interested in one take on the “bigger picture,” please read this article, based on a speech by G. Edward Griffin. There is a section called “The Strategy to Control the Teaching of History” that outlines how powerful world leaders are actually conspiring to alter history books, and the reasons why.

Okay, now. I’m on board with this! I’m not a homeschooling Mom, nor do I have the time & patience to be, but I am very involved in my son’s education. This is the first year we’ve had issues in school, and I’ve, unfortunately, discovered that unless your child is in mainstream, they often do not get their educational needs met in traditional schools. It has been sooooo frustrating trying to communicate with the teachers, and I’ve been shocked by the apathy I’ve encountered. My eyes were opened on this topic in college by a book called “Horace’s Compromise.” Christoper Columbus was described, not as an heroic explorer, but a barbaric, Indian murderer. I found this perspective very interesting and began to wonder if I had been fed “sanitized, feel good fairy tales” up until then.
