Pages & Pounds

Ever since I started blogging, my scrapbooking hobby has taken a backseat and an extra 15 pounds has found its way to my hips and belly. Much of my creativity, as well as my free time, has been invested in this blog. I love blogging, but I need to find a balance.

In early 2005, my daughter’s 1st year scrapbook was up-to-date and I was only about a year behind in family scrapbooking. And, just to pump up my stats a bit, I have to mention that I made two gift albums in 2004 and one in 2005. Now I am 2 years behind in family scrapbooking and my daughter’s album comes to a screeching halt at 6 months old. My sister asked me to create a wedding scrapbook for her, which is now 2 1/2 years overdue and she’s pregnant so I also want to make a baby book for her.

I recently sat down to scrapbook and just stared at my supplies and photos for about 30 minutes. Everything I have seems so outdated. I can’t get inspired. But I also can’t afford to buy new supplies considering that I have two shelves full of embellishments and a paper supply that resembles an aisle at Michael’s.

Exercise always inspires me, as does telling people that I have a goal. Going public makes me feel more accountable. So I’ve resolved to rectify this situation, and I’m creating a little tracker to show the number of pages I’ve completed and pounds I’ve lost. (You’ll find it over to the right under “PHAT Stuff”.) My goal is 2 per week of each. If you see my stats waning, feel free to give me some abuse encouragement!

As someone who also wants to add weight to her scrapbooks while losing it from her bod, I share your goals. But 2 pounds a week? That seems awfully ambitious…unrealistically so. Even one pound a week, if you stick to it, would add up (or down?) quickly. Be kind and reasonable to yourself, as you would to a friend…or your kids.

I enjoy your blog! –Melissa in NJ

The ONLY way I survived my first year of homeschooling (and without gaining the pounds!) was by finding an awesome YMCA with childcare close to home. After schoolwork was completed for the day (no easy task with a 7th grader, first grader, kindergartener, and pre-schooler!) we would head off to the Y (Dad worked 2nd shift) where the younger kids played age-appropriate games, my oldest worked out for PE, and Mommy got to sweat away the day’s stress for 30 minutes to one hour. Y’s are usually fairly economical and even have family assistance/scholarship programs for those of us on one income. And the extra curricular programs- sports, homeschool PE, etc- are out of this world! I encourage you to check it out.

Wow! I can’t believe your little sister is married and having a baby. Boy, do I feel old! You’ll accomplish your goals, I’m sure, but try not to be too hard on yourself. You are a busy, busy lady! And, don’t lose too much or you’ll have to be SKINNI mommy.
