PHAT Links: Math Monday

// 3.13.06 // Filed under: Homeschooling, Link Love, Parenting

I’ve been compiling lists of useful links for parents and homeschoolers, but haven’t developed an efficient way to organize them. So rather than thinking about it forever and never taking any action until I come up with the perfect solution (waiting for perfection is my preferred method of procrastination), I’ve decided to just start throwing them out here on the blog.

Today’s topic is math and these links are fun and educational for children (homeschooling or not) of all ages.
1. Math Baseball: My son loves this site. You choose the type of math and the difficulty level, answer the problem, then click “swing.” You get a strike if you’re wrong, but a correct answer yields a single, double, triple or home run – depending on the difficulty.

2.  Cool Math 4 Kids: This is an excellent site chock full of math games – geometry, puzzles, decimals and more. They have a specific section with games for kids ages 3 to 5. Lemonade Stand is lots of fun for budding entrepreneurs – and even for Mom & Dad!

3. Math Playground: Math hoops, baseball, area and perimeter, and other games.

4. MathFactCafe.com: An online version of Peg Board (click on Fun and Games) – I love that game! You’ll also find online flashcards and printable math worksheets (pre-made or generate your own). Targeted to grades 1 – 4.

Happy Birthday! Glad I’m not the only one turning 37 this week!

Thanks for the links. I love the “Math Baseball” does problems in algebraic style…something you rarely find for older kids!

  4. Trixie says:

Hey, thanks for the math links! Finn and Liam are lovin’ the math baseball! Liam mostly asks Finn for the answers when he plays, but I’ve been encouraging him to find the answers himself, and he now plays with an abacus in front of him so he can attempt the problems on his own. Not bad for 3!

  5. Julia V. says:

    Happy B-day, Shannon!
And thank you for the math websites! We’ve tried the one for the 3-5 yrs old with Ivana today, and she loved the games. She was pretty patient doing the jigsaw puzzles!
