Not much on my mind right now, but it's not important. I've just been letting everything happen without me. I just don't have anything to say right now.

I tend to agree with my mom on this one... she says (tongue halfway in cheek) that there should just be birth control in the water and you should have to apply for an antidote.

But I don't think Big Guv should have the power to decide who gets to breed... maybe your neighbors, co-workers and family members should get to vote on it... :)

I don't think it's so much that people aren't concerned about the government taking over our freedom as much as it is frustration at the parents who aren't disciplining their children, who aren't teaching their children right from wrong, who think it's ok for their children to behave any way they want while out in public.

Top o the mornin to you. I do hope you're feeling better.

Oh,I am very concerned about the government taking control of anything, they do know how to make life complicated. In many ways they already control parenting. Enough said.

I enjoyed reading and will return but today I'm here via Michele's.

What does licensing mean? A series of parenting courses meant to guide you through the difficult stages of parenting? A test to be passed before you can can give birth or adopt? I do find it sort of interesting that there are a lot of regulations, interviews etc before you can adopt but few for physically giving birth yourself.

Licensing would never fly -- what would happen if you "failed" the course? Would the government force a woman to have her tubes tied so she can't reproduce? A man to have a vascetomy? Monitor your sexual activity and fine you if you broke the law by having a baby anyway? Wear a scarlet letter so people would know? Tax penalties of you go ahead anyway?
Take away your kids? The LAST thing our government wants is MORE children to look out for.
At what age would these licensing courses be offered -- and where? Let's say the government says all child bearing women must take this course at age 18 (insert whatever age you find appropriate). They'd also have to include prospective fathers in the group. It'd have to be a pretty big location to handle all of them at any given time!

While it might be a thought-provoking concept, it's pretty much impossible to implement I think

I feel for you - I have had that "not quite right" feeling lately too...you'll get over it, slowly but surely.

Sounds like getting a bit of fresh air did help you a bit, though!

As for parenting licences...I don't think they should be required...but I do think that parent education should be STRONGLY advocated. We parent as we were parented...some just know what they were taught. If we can TEACH people to be better parents (and if they are willing to LEARN), that would make it better, I think. Not a requirement, only a suggestion.

Michele sent me -congrats on being site of the day!

Congratulations on being site of the day at Michele. Isn't this fun? I know a few Home Schooleing Mom's and I think it's fabulous! All the kids seem to be way ahead of their contemporaries in Public School..and that makes sense to me...when I was a child we would spend the winteres in Florida and we went to this school that was very tiny; only 3 or at the most 4 kids in a class, and we only went mornings till noon and when we would return to our regular public school in the spring we were all always waaaaay ahead of our respective classes. All that indivdual attention really paid off!

I didn't agree with the licensing, either. I do have definite views on how certain situations should be handled (due to being a foster parent) but agree with the government becoming 'big brother.' Michele sent me!

Hello, Michele sent me. Hope you're feeling better, and congrats on being Site of the Day. As to parenting licenses. The idea is intriguing, the execution would doom us all.
