Holiday Stress and Early Intervention

// 12.10.05 // Filed under: My Daughter, Parenting, Thriving

It’s that busy, crazy time of year… Every year I tell myself I will not let the wonder of the season get lost in stress. But I feel the stress creeping in. Here is my own little meme: My To Do List.

1. Make/mail holiday cards
2. Updates for PHAT Daddy’s business web site
3. Updates for family web site
4. Scrapbooking (gifts)
5. Photo collage for my Nana (for her room in an assisted living home she just moved to)
6. Bills/Bookkeeping for the business
7. Back up my computer
8. Buy (think of, actually) holiday gifts

Of course, I spend a lot of time on things that are not on the to do list, like blogging, emailing and engaging in philosophical debate with friends. It’s that discipline issue again: Doing what I want instead of what I should.

On another topic, we had the first meeting with early intervention the other day. I haven’t blogged about this, but C is nearly 15 months old and not crawling, standing, or even rolling over. She scoots around on her butt, but her upper body is not strong enough for anything else. So we contacted early intervention. What a process! First a visit for paperwork, then another visit for evaluation, then another visit for recommendations. It will likely be the end of January before any real therapy happens. But the woman who came to the house gave me some great ideas for “tummy time” activities and exercises, and I’m hoping that C will be progressing before we even get to the therapy process.

We always seem to have too much to do and not enough time to do it. Holidays only make it seem that much worse.

I’ll be thinking of you and your Princess as you move further along the EI process. You’re a great Mom for sharing the experience on your blog. Takes guts!

  2. I hope things are getting checked off that list and you can quickly get back to “those things you want”. I know that each time I get a gift wrapped/made, I do a little mental dance…just one step closer!
