Random Thoughts on Christmas Eve

L & I saw Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire today. Brilliant. We’re only now getting on the Harry Potter bandwagon and I can totally see what all the fuss is about. The movies are incredible and the books even better. I just hope Hermione and poor Ron do get together at some point.

I’m reading a book now called Happy Housewives by Darla Shine. I’ve just started it, but the premise is this: the author is simply disgusted that so many women are identifying themselves with the “Desperate Housewives” and she wants to show us all how to stop whining and snap out of it in 10 easy steps. I’m finding the book mildly amusing, but the message hits home. I am proud and thankful to be home raising my kids and I really need to stop bitching and whining about EV-ER-Y-THING. I am such a spoiled brat.

The Star Wars exhibit was fun, but did not live up to my expectations. First, they did not allow strollers or “large bags” or food into the exhibit. So we had to carry around C and could not keep her occupied with crackers or bring in the diaper bag. I was really annoyed at first, but it turned out OK. Seems she’s become quite the Star Wars fan by osmosis. She recognized all the characters, pointing and laughing and practically throwing herself out of our arms trying to get a look at all the costumes on display. PHAT Daddy kept her busy for about 45 minutes by simply running back and forth between Darth Vader, the Wookies, and Yoda and imitating their voices.
The exhibit was mostly a display of costumes and props. The droids and blasters were cool. Luke’s landspeeder was on display. There was a Millenium Falcon simulation that was fun for the kids, but the content could have been better. Oh, and a cool hovercraft simulation you could ride. I think the best part were the experiments. We learned about magnetic levitation by building a sort of Lego hovercraft and figuring out how to position the magnets to propel it forward on a track. Then we took an R2-D2 type robot and programmed it to move in a certain direction. Neat stuff. I wish they’d had more “hands on” displays that related to the Science of Star Wars.
So, Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah and all that jazz. Enjoy your families and remember how fast time flies by. Enjoy every moment and don’t waste a second.

PHAT = Parenting, Homeschooling And Technology. That about sums up my life at the moment.
