Quote of the Day
“When you’re 25, you can eat hamburgers and pizza and drink beer and stay out all night and come out the next day and drink a couple cups of coffee and just play. If I did that today, my heart would stop and I’d need a stretcher and an IV.”
- MIKE PIAZZA, 37-year-old Mets catcher
Aint it the truth.
I’ve said this before, but I am really tired of being tired. I have zero energy. Something’s gotta give here. I know the diet and exercise thing makes a huge difference. It’s also very time-consuming. I get up in the morning, shower, take care of the kids all day, then when we are all at our hungriest and crankiest, I am supposed to cook a healthy dinner? Then clean up, put the baby to bed and GO EXERCISE?? Am I just being a big drama queen here? What do the rest of you do?

Hi Shannon, I’m brand new to blogging and I found your site a couple of days ago. I enjoy reading it, and I really related to what you said about being tired of feeling tired. Have you first had a physical to rule anything other than exhaustion out?
I read something very interesting today in reference to parents taking care of themselves…. the analogy of the pre-flight oxygen mask instructions given to airline passengers: “Secure the mask over your face and THEN take care of your child.”
I found it a timely analogy for me. We must take care of ourselves before we can expect to have the energy to take care ofour children & families. But it may be a different answer for each of us. I’ll pray that you find your way quickly! (I’m so new… visit me.)

I can relate all around. Have you tried exercising in the morning? I know this is hard with kids, cause that’s mostly the reason I don’t exercise. Exercising too close to bedtime is actually counteractive because it gives you insomnia. And even if you don’t have trouble sleeping in that you are not wide awake for hours, you may not be getting a good QUALITY sleep, which basically defeats the purpose of sleeping in the first place…well, except for the one purpose that is the pure joy and comfort of being allowed to be lazy for a few solid hours without anyone thinking less of you ;o)

Hmmm, I struggle with this too. Permanently exhausted. But things that help are making a huge batch of spaghetti sauce/casserole/soup that you can freeze and save for busy evenings. Or enlisting the children’s help in chopping the vegetables, etc earlier in the day. I know I hit rock bottom on the days when I haven’t planned/prepared dinner early and get to 5.30pm and go ‘oh god what are we going to have for dinner?!!!!!!’
