Phase Two…
It was a giant step forward when L took his first lessons without-Mom-within-arm’s-reach. The first day was very difficult, but after that he was a changed boy. He has even asked to continue lessons, so he started his second session of swimming this week.
Phase two of my plan is to get him involved in a group lesson. He is hesitant to participate in a class where other kids will be “watching him.” Our health club offers gym classes for homeschoolers and the first session this fall just happens to be yoga. I can’t even tell you how lucky I got with THAT! L loves to do my yoga exercise video with me at home, so he is much more open to participating in a yoga class than, say, gymnastics or basketball. I asked him if he wanted to take the class, and when he said “I guess so,” I jumped on it - registering him the very same day. Too late to turn back now! Class begins 9/28, stay tuned…
He is not a little boy anymore. He’s practically a tween. He’s still growing his hair long and now he’s taking showers on his own. No more baths or help from Mommy. My baby is growing up.
Happy Birthday To You…
Do you realize C is a year old and she is still not crawling?! Not even rolling over really. She hates being on her stomach or her back – she just wants to sit. She can skootch around on her butt in a sitting position and eventually get where she wants to go, but she gets *really mad* about it. Her doctor visit this week brought up a few surprises. First, she has virtually stopped gaining weight in the last three months. And combined with her inactivity, that doesn’t make sense because she eats all the time! She is now 22 lbs and 30” – 75th percentile for both, when she had been steadily in the 95th percentile. Second, her skin is very yellow and the doctor has ordered blood work to check her thyroid function as well as her carnitine level, which apparently has to do with muscular development. I need to do some further research on this, but he assures me this is all treatable and not a big deal. Yeah, he’s not the one that has to take her to get blood drawn. NOT looking forward to that.
On the bright side, her big birthday bash is this weekend! And after an absolutely bee-you-ti-full September, it’s going to rain for her party. Waaahhhh. What I’m going to do with 35 people inside my house, I do not know.
A Good Read for All Moms…
Finally, this article is a must-read for all Moms. It is targeted to working mothers, but I found it very relevant to at-home moms like myself who are harried and never quite feel relaxed or able to give their children 100%.

PHAT = Parenting, Homeschooling And Technology. That about sums up my life at the moment.

What cute children you have. I hope your little girl is okay; just taking a rest from growing. Tell her happy birthday from me!
