The Aliens Are Back
Filed Under: My Daughter, My Son, Parenting, Thriving
It happened again. The Aliens came and took my children away and replaced them with sweet little replicas.
We were away this past weekend visiting my family. Went to an air show (Blue Angels, fighter planes, etc.) and the zoo, the kids spent time swimming in the pool and playing with cousins, PHAT Daddy gambled the night away at Foxwoods with my brother-in-law, and I got some time to “coffee klatch” with my family. Support for my parenting struggles, laughter and tears, hugs and good vibes all around.
I think the trip served as a catharsis. Back home, things couldn’t be better. C just turned 9 months old and, as of Tuesday night, I am not nursing her at night anymore. She has slept straight through from 6:30 pm to 5:00 am for two nights in a row. She wakes around 2 am, but whimpers a little and goes right back to sleep. (I see two new teeth emerging, so I do think her waking-every-two-hours the past couple weeks had something to do with teething.)
L’s issues are improving, too. He is controlling himself better when he gets frustrated and he has been talking to people with increasing comfort. PHAT Daddy & I had time this weekend to talk about firmness and consequences and we’re not going to be wishy-washy with discipline any more. Our children need to know their boundaries and they need routine and structure. We’ve already been working on this and have seen positive results.
Things are looking up, but I still feel a little down. I always feel this way after visiting family. Wishing I could be closer. Wishing I could see them more often. This leads to wishing I had more “alone” time to write, scrapbook, exercise, spend quality time with my husband. So I continue the roller coaster ride. Things are good, things are bad. Blah, blah, blah.
I’m off now to shower and face the day. It’s going to be 90 degrees for the next week and WE STILL HAVE NO POOL. ARRGGHHHH. Next I will blog about the pool saga, for your reading pleasure.
Have a wonderful day blogosphere.

PHAT = Parenting, Homeschooling And Technology. That about sums up my life at the moment.

Having good family close is a wondeful thing. Perhaps you could create a surogate family of friends and neighbors to help out?
