In a Fog

Today I was in a fog. C is sick – again. Fever, cough, cold, not sleeping. Could be an ear infection, so I’ve started giving her some of the garlic drops suggested by my amazing holistic doctor. I started the day with severe sleep deprivation, barking at my son that he will have to tend to himself for today because his sister is sick and needs more of my attention. I also fished around for some help from PHAT Daddy – it’s all too tempting to enlist his assistance since he works from home. But he’s swamped with work and, while he did take L out for a bit to the post office, I knew I could not expect him to completely take over. It was a tough day. But in my sleepy, cranky state, I recognize a few highlights:
1. L is obsessed with this 2nd grade math book. I think he’s going to love math, as I did. I showed him once how to add 3-digit numbers and carry into the tens and hundreds columns. When I came back from tending to C, he had finished the whole page on his own.
2. I kept my cool (mostly) with a baby that cried the entire day.
3. I didn’t give in to food issues. Under stress, I typically drive through Wendy’s or Dunkin Donuts. Or when my son asks for the 10th time if he can have “a treat,” I give in because it’s just easier than fighting about it. Not today. He ate well and I ate well. OK, so we had brownies, but that was after we ate solid meals!
